About City Business / Music Business (ADVERTISING & THE RULE OF SEVEN)

ADVERTISING & MARKETING

OK crew, it’s the way everything from Taco Bell’s late-night commercials rotate on TV & radio, to those funny GEICO Insurance ads; “… I just saved a bunch a money on my car insurance…” It’s called advertising, and it’s very important! See, whether it’s radio spinning that song you really didn’t like “before”, but now, after you’ve heard it 7 (or more) times… well, yeah, it’s kind of an ok song now. And hopefully for the company spending money for those everywhere-you-look-and-listen ads, the public will believe the ad message and possibly make a purchase of that particular product. And what is that “magic” number that the marketing experts agree is “key” for most people to accept, and then “swallow” by reaching into their wallets?

“THE RULE OF SEVEN?”

Hey, it’s real folks.
This means that you should be trying to get your
project exposed with that concept or rule in mind. FIRST: Advertise your product in at least 7 different places, allowing the potential consumer to be introduced to your music or merchandise. This means seeing your product or promos, reading or hearing (about) the product in those 7 different places you have chose to run ads in. Now, market your project by advertising over a reasonable length of time so that people will know about it, hear about it, and possibly think about your product enough to acknowledge it and then consider buying it. Seek out local, regional, and major national magazines and newspapers, TV, radio, Internet (banners ads, etc), promos in the street (posters, postcards, stickers, etc); basically everywhere you can afford to advertise your project. And don’t forget about the “audible” drops in songs; advertising and marketing your project or company, “in the music”. Example: Jermaine Dupri’s voice, with shout-outs to “So So Def” in a record, or “This… is another Jazzy Pha Production”, or just by using their unique trademark – vocally or musically in their records (“Whaaat!!!” … “Okayeeee!” via Lil’ Jon). All in all, just know that this all is part of the marketing, hype, promotion and “Rule of Seven’ working and being effective.

All of this normally helps to sell the record or product. I’m telling you this so that you and your team know that you will need to do the same when you have a plan and budget in place to make that “Rule of 7” happen for your own project. Advertising has always been key to getting a product out in the mass market. Let’s face it, if you have the best burger like Hardees… what good is it, if no one knows that it’s great? And just think of other big companies. We all already know about Wendy’s, Coca-Cola and McDonalds, but, all of these giant corporations continuously promote and advertise to remind your subconscious to consider and think of them, and hopefully accept the ad campaign enough to buy product. It’s a fact, most people, if they see it enough in magazines, or especially on TV… people normally accept it, and eventually consider the product legitimate.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR MARKETING & ADVERTISING…
PERSISTENCE IS THE KEY!

According to business expert and author Jeff Williams (www.bizstarters.com), most sales experts claim that it can take up to SEVEN SEPARATE contacts of a sales prospect before he can actually be persuaded to finally buy your product. So, success in getting people to learn enough about you to be comfortable with you is vital… followed by consistent communications, along with a sufficient amount of watch-time of the public and media seeing you in print, radio, web, TV, etc. and what’s been proven to be the best support of all; word of mouth.
